LONELY OR ALONE?

Are you happily alone? Do you feel complete, mentally, spiritually, physically and emotionally? Do you understand who you are with or without a partner? Do you go to bed each night feeling wholesome and satisfied? If the answer is no, then you may be struggling with loneliness, worried about what others think, concerned what others may be saying of you, feeling unsatisfied about what you don’t have, feeling left out, rejected, even despised at your aloneness.

There is a difference between a person who is alone and a lonely person. An alone person is single, yet, wholesome. They are satisfied and know who they are in Christ, which brings satisfaction and fulfilment. Their dependency is in God alone.

A lonely person may be dependent on others – what others think. They may talk a certain way to fit in, they may be influenced by their surroundings in order to feel accepted. A lonely person may have feelings of frustration, rejection and may feel at times ostracised. You may have thoughts that God has forgotten about you, that nobody understands what you’re going through, that no-body is with you or stands with or for you. You may feel that you’re in it on your own, trying to get through each day, alone.

The good news is that you are not alone! God promises us to never leave nor abandon us. God wants us to be filled and satisfied in Him. He promises to be our Provider. Often we may interpret provision as being materialistic. The truth is, God wants to provide for us emotionally, physically, mentally, emotionally, He wants to fill us with His joy, peace and love.

So, you may ask, how then, do I deal with loneliness? How do I overcome those overwhelming feelings of isolation? I have come to the conclusion that thoughts and feelings of loneliness is a deception of the enemy – it’s a state of mind. The enemy wants to rob us of anything that is good. He may plant thoughts of deficiency, dissatisfaction and loneliness in our mind. He may taunt us with thoughts of rejection that once entertained can affect our emotional well-being. I believe that regardless of your status, whether you are lonely or not, God wants us to be wholesome and satisfied in Him. You are not alone. How can we be alone when the Creator is with us, on call 24/7?
